San Juan College

Enterprise web development, accessibility leadership, and digital systems support.

My Contributions at SJC

Before launching Rusted Rose Studios, I spent nearly a decade working in enterprise-level web development at San Juan College in the Four Corners Area.

My work included being the technical lead on multiple website redesigns, student portal systems, accessibility leadership, digital infrastructure, CMS administration, and large-scale technical integrations used daily by students, employees, and the public.

I worked closely with the SJC Marketing & Public Relations team, vendors, leadership, content and subject matter experts across campus to help build digital systems that were accessible, maintainable, and user-focused.

Award-Winning Website Redesign

In 2023-2024 I served as Technical Lead for the complete redesign of the main San Juan College website, collaborating closely with Marketing & Public Relations teams, content strategists, design vendors, and CMS vendors to help bring the project from concept to launch.

Key responsibilities included:

  • technical planning and implementation support

  • accessibility compliance oversight

  • CMS guidance and vendor coordination

  • QA testing and responsive implementation

  • ensuring functional requirements aligned with user needs

The redesigned website focused heavily on usability, accessibility, mobile responsiveness, and improved information architecture to better support current and prospective students.

Through this work, I also received professional training in writing for the web, content strategy, usability, and SEO-conscious content organization.

Since launch, the redesigned website has received multiple regional, national, and international awards for digital excellence.

MySJC Portal Redesign & Development

The MySJC portal systems acted as digital hubs for students, employees, and public users across campus.

I served as the project lead, sole coder, content manager, and primary technical implementor for the redesign and redevelopment of the portal systems.

A big part of this work was helping make information easier to find, easier to manage, and easier for people across campus to maintain long-term.

My role included:

  • leading technical planning and implementation

  • building and maintaining the system itself

  • managing content structure and workflows

  • approving editor workflows and content governance

  • helping departments improve and create new pages

  • supporting accessibility and usability improvements

  • coordinating with stakeholders and content teams

  • improving SEO-conscious content organization and user flow

Content management became a major part of the project over time. I worked closely with editors and departments across campus to help improve page structure, content usability, workflows, and overall user experience throughout the portal.

Accessibility & Digital Inclusion Leadership

Accessibility became a major focus throughout my career at San Juan College.

In addition to implementing WCAG and Section 508 standards across the SJC websites, I became the go-to accessibility resource for faculty and staff across campus.

I developed accessibility training materials, online Canvas courses, workshops, and documentation designed to help employees create more inclusive digital experiences for students and the community.

This work included:

  • Developing and facilitating campus-wide accessibility training

  • Teaching accessible document creation for Word, PowerPoint, PDFs, and web content

  • Creating accessibility guidance and campus training resources

  • Performing accessibility audits and remediation support

  • Supporting inclusive digital design practices across departments

  • Helping ensure institutional websites met WCAG and Section 508 standards

In 2025, I earned my CPACC certification through the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP).

Systems, Integrations & Web Infrastructure

Beyond website development, my work also included digital systems management, third-party integrations, and infrastructure support across multiple institutional platforms.

Systems and integrations included:

  • Creation of a campus-wide digital signage system used across all three San Juan College campuses

  • Emergency alert integrations connecting Department of Public Safety notifications to websites, portals, and campus displays

  • CMS administration and workflow management for TerminalFOUR

  • Cookie consent implementation and compliance integrations using OneTrust

  • Funnelback/Squiz site search integration

  • Google Analytics and marketing/tracking integrations

  • Social feed integrations and third-party platform support

  • Accessibility-focused governance and QA workflows

  • Single Sign-On (SSO) integrations and user experience support

The digital signage system was built from scratch and designed to allow centralized content management while also supporting emergency messaging across campus systems.
